I know that sometimes it might be difficult to find an easy hairstyle to do alone and that suits us perfectly. However, the mission can become much simpler, if you just learn to respect your morphology. In this regard, the shape of the face certainly plays the biggest role. Here’s a look at the simplest and most chic ideas to try in 2024
Oval Face – Is This Your Case?
Before we get into the hair solutions, I want to share with you a simple method to confirm that you really do have an oval face. This is a test that I learned from my hairdresser and that you can do in a few minutes. To do this, arm yourself with a measuring tape, a pencil and a piece of paper.

Test
- Now start by measuring the width of the forehead.
- Then, note the width of the cheeks by measuring from one ear to the other.
- Measure the width of your jaw and finally, note the length of the face from the roots to the chin.
Before that, determine if your face is actually oval.
Results
You have an oval face, if your results are as follows.
- Your forehead and jaw are approximately the same width.
- Your face is longer than it is wide.
- Your cheekbones are the widest area of your face. But, they are angular and soft, which results in a subtle and not too pronounced difference.
- Your forehead is wider than your jawline, but your jawline is also rounded and soft, without sharp angles.
- Overall, you can see a visual balance between the chin, forehead and cheekbones.
If your body type meets the parameters mentioned above, you can immediately move on to considering hair ideas.
Hairstyle Ideas for Oval Face
Are you already sure that your face is oval? This is very good news, because curiously, it is one of the most metamorphosable and adaptable shapes to different styles. Thus, you can calmly experiment with almost any idea that catches your attention.
Natural waves with salt spray
Plus, according to Vogue experts, you can consider cuts and hairstyles with any type of bangs, because your oval face welcomes them all with open arms! That being said, let’s quickly take a look at my favorite current favorites.
Hollywood Curls Hairstyle
High ponytail
Bella Hadid is indeed one of the lucky celebrities whose face shape is notably oval. Very often, we see her wearing her hair tied in a high ponytail and this is not by chance. Experts confirm that this hairstyle brings out the beauty of the cheekbones.
Braided crown
Are you going for an effortless chic and bohemian look? Then I recommend you consider the idea of making a braided crown. This one is usually suitable for every texture. In addition, the braid contours the hairline and the oval face, while adding height to the hairstyle with its braided look. For a romantic and relaxed note, let a few strands fall naturally in front of the face.
Homemade brushing
Home blow-drying is a fantastic technique to give you a flawless and polished look. According to celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh, “The secret to successful blow-drying at home lies in separating your hair into small sections.“. So, “By working strand by strand, you can better control airflow and heat, resulting in a shiny, smooth hairstyle.”, he emphasizes.
Naturally curly hair with side parting
And here is another very simple idea, but one that makes all the difference. What I am talking about now is to slightly curl your lengths and make a side parting. In this way, you frame the face by highlighting its oval shape.
Wavy effect on a mid-length bob
The wavy effect is also very popular in the modern hair world. With a method of your choice (with or without heat), you give a textured, voluminous and quite natural effect to your hair. My favorite technique to avoid heat is to simply braid my freshly washed and dried hair into two large braids. The next morning, I undo the braids and apply a little texturizing spray and voila.
