Sylt is always worth a trip – maybe even in the low season, when the island reveals its gentle, calm side. When a cool breeze blows around the nose, the beaches are deserted and you can feel the untouched nature in all its intensity. In which hotel we have not only spent one, but several unforgettable Sylt winter days and what they looked like for us, we would like to tell you today.
The country house Stricker, which is part of the exclusive association Relais & Châteaux is located in Tinnum, in the heart of Sylt and is only a stone’s throw away from Westerland. The beautiful beach, which runs along the entire west coast of the island, is also only a few minutes away and invites you to walks.

The owner -managed country house Stricker was only extensively renovated in 2023. And the focus was not only on the design, but also the topic of sustainability. When redesigning the rooms and suites, it was particularly paid to recyclable materials, and a large part of the materials and furniture used came from Germany.
Sustainability is often in detail. A nice example is the use of old fishing nets as a filling for the “Seaqual” mattress-a sustainable and at the same time creative approach.

The hotel comprises a total of 38 rooms and suites that radiate a beautiful warmth. You feel comfortable when you enter the home for a temporary home. Incidentally, dogs are also welcome in the Landhaus Stricker – and of course Fiete was on Sylt.
During our stay we lived in a Landhaus Suite in Maisonette style. This category offers a spacious living area with a colorful couch, a desk, a balcony, a free -standing bathtub and a beautiful bathroom on the lower floor.
A staircase leads to the charming bedroom with a cozy seating area and a small, walk -in wardrobe under the roof.

Sustainability is also very important outside the rooms and suites. From your own herb garden to the use of predominantly regional products in the restaurants to electric charging stations for guests and the cooperation with the “Click a Tree” initiative, the Landhaus Stricker shows that responsibility for the environment in the hotel is taken seriously.
Design and art also have a high priority in the Landhaus Stricker. A special piece of jewelry is the library on the ground floor, with an impressive selection of novels and illustrated books as well as furniture, all of which are eye -catchers alone and form a harmonious whole together.
Works by the well-known pop artist Devin Miles can be found everywhere in the hotel, and artistic photographs of the island of the renowned Sylt photographer Harald Hentzschel adorn the walls in the rooms and suites.
The cuisine in the country house Stricker
A very personal highlight of our stay was the great breakfast that is served in the country house Stricker until 2 p.m. We love not being tied to a certain time and only after an extensive walk to the beach in peace and enjoying the morning to the fullest.
The breakfast buffet is supplemented by a beautiful à la carte offer and really leaves nothing to be desired-from the healthy acai-bowl and the homemade Birchermüsli to a classic tight max to Frisian bread with North Sea crabs and the delicious fresh waffle. Oh, and the heavenly apple pancakes!
Incidentally, the ambience in the Siebzehn84 restaurant radiates a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our favorite was the cozy seat niches, in which you could also enjoy privacy when there was a little more going on at breakfast.
We weren’t the only ones who used the long early days and had the morning merged with lunch. Good to know: External guests can also book breakfast in the Landhaus Stricker.
If the host is also a star chef, the culinary is of course very important. There are two well-known restaurants in the Landhaus Stricker, both of whom are among the most popular on Sylt: the seventeen84, in which the hotel guests also have breakfast, as well as the Bodendorf’s awarded with a Michelin star.
Unfortunately, the Bodendorf’s was closed during our stay, but the seventeen84 already offered us a foretaste of the quality of the kitchen with its first -class breakfast. The restaurant is very popular, so that we could no longer get a table for dinner on the Valentine’s Day weekend.
But we have decided to come back on a next visit – the culinary experience there is definitely one of the many reasons to return to Sylt.
The perfect winter day on Sylt
But back to our perfect “Sylt in Winter” day: We started the day relaxed with a coffee in bed before going to the beach for a long walk with Fiete. After that, we devoted ourselves extensively to breakfast, which in the Landhaus Stricker was happy to take almost two hours.
Then we relaxed with a cup of tea and a good book in our room before strolling through one of the idyllic villages, marveled at pretty boutiques and even more beautiful private houses. Another place every day to get to know the variety of the island.
Then we went to another long walk through the winter dune landscape and enjoyed the most magical moment in the cold February when the sun is slowly disappearing behind the horizon. The perfect end of our day? A long and relaxing visit to the SPA of the country house Stricker.
Wellnes in the country house Stricker
Speaking of wellness: The Landhaus Stricker not only has an extremely stylish wellness area with steam bath, inside pool and two saunas, but also an idyllic garden with a pond and a barrel sauna.
There is also one of the most beautiful hotel gyms we have ever seen in the hotel. The entire wellness area is more reminiscent of an elegant lounge than a classic hotel spa.
