  • You can also replace the sugar with pomegranate syrup. This is very popular in Turkish cuisine and gives the whole a great fruity note. Pomegranate seeds also fit wonderfully as topping.
  • If the red onions are a little too sharp, you can soak in cold water or in salt water for half an hour. This makes them a little milder. You can find more detailed instructions in the notes at the end of the recipe.
  • Cut the onions as thinly as possible, it is best to use a very sharp knife or a vegetable slicer.
  • So that your salad does not become too watery, you should not let it go through for too long, but should serve after 5-10 minutes. So the freshness of the ingredients remains proven. Our pickled onions, on the other hand, are perfect for preparing and storing.

Tips:
Depending on your taste, you can prepare the onions in 3 different ways:

  1. You use them freshly cut, as indicated in the recipe. So they keep their sharpness and remain particularly crisp and aromatic. That is our favorite.
  2. You mix them with half a teaspoon of salt and let them pull for 30 minutes. The resulting onion water pours away. So they become softer and a little milder.
  3. You put the onion rings in a bowl with cold water for 30 minutes. Then fill up the water, dry the onions and process it. This is how they become milder, but keep their crisp bite.
